The night of museums 2023

Since 1977, every year, on May 18, International Museum Day is celebrated, a European initiative created with the aim of raising awareness among the population and visitors of the key role of museums and other cultural centers in the development of society.

On the occasion of this celebration, the weekend before, specifically on Saturday May 13, the so-called "Night of the Museums" takes place in Barcelona.

What is the Night of the Museums?

The Night of the Museums is an event that has taken place in Barcelona since 2006, this year the 17th edition is celebrated and 90 museums in the entire metropolitan area of Barcelona can be visited for free. A record figure that far exceeds previous editions.

From seven in the evening until one in the morning you can enjoy 6 hours of culture totally free, although it is possible that some places request a prior reservation simply to control the capacity.

What places can you visit?

You can visit all kinds of museums, centers and cultural spaces completely free of charge. In addition to the 121 exhibitions available, both permanent and temporary, including those from the most renowned museums, and that's not all, many of the museums have scheduled activities and special cultural proposals to celebrate this day with all visitors, a total of 86 activities organized with workshops, concerts, itineraries and performances of all kinds. Here are some of the most interesting proposals:

• Castell de Montjuïc. You will be able to practice archery, visit unusual spaces and corners that are normally closed to the public and, in addition, throughout the night, you will be accompanied by electronic music by the Mostra Festival.

• National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) . In addition to the open doors, the Oval Room will host a special gastronomic offer and concerts.

• Botanical garden . Various exhibitions, evening guided tours and a special surprise, the night of secret music in the garden.

• Cosmocaixa . Here they have prepared scientific activities for all audiences with surprising materials and a special visit to the planetarium, among others that can be consulted and reserved on their website .

• Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) . Starting at 10:30 p.m. there will be a musical session by DJ Pasaporteman.
