Plans for a rainy day in Barcelona

Ocio Leisure 18/10/2023

Barcelona is a city where the weather is usually good, but there are also rainier times and days, especially in spring and autumn. If during your visit to the city it happens to be a rainy day, don't despair, there are many plans ahead to make your day as entertaining as possible. Today we bring some proposals for all tastes:

Don't let the rain stop your desire to discover culture. Visiting museums and historical buildings is one of the best plans to stay away from the water. In addition, Barcelona has museums and buildings of all kinds, so we can surely give you some ideas that fit your tastes.

Take the opportunity to shelter from the rain inside the most beautiful modernist buildings in our city:

  • Casa Batlló : Discover a fascinating journey into the mind of Antoni Gaudí with its immersive virtual reality experience.

  • Casa Ametller : here you can even have a good hot chocolate at the Faborit cafeteria located inside the house.

  • Casa Vicens : check if there are any activities or exhibitions , they always have very interesting proposals.

  • Palau de la Música : perhaps you can take the opportunity to see a show and enjoy its beauty and wonderful acoustics at the same time.

We do not recommend visiting Casa Milà (La Pedrera) on a rainy day since the Rooftop, one of the main attractions of the house, is closed for safety reasons.

You can also entertain yourself for a long time in any of these museums:

  • Picasso museum

  • Joan Miró Foundation

  • Maritime Museum

  • Museum of History of Catalonia

  • MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona)

Just because it's raining doesn't mean you have to stop doing activities, we have some of the most fun proposals to do indoors. Ice skating is one of them, take the opportunity to visit the FC Barcelona rink (currently closed for renovations), right next to the Camp Nou. Have you tried climbing? At the Climbat: La Foixarda climbing wall you can spend a very entertaining day climbing walls of all kinds.

Climbing wall. And, you couldn't miss the classic for rainy days, bowling . At Bowling Pedralbes you will find 14 lanes to practice until you get the strike at a very affordable price.

Take the opportunity to do some shopping, Barcelona has many shopping centers where you will find all kinds of brands.

  • Westfield Glòries : varied range of shops of all kinds, especially fashion, but its great attraction is El Mercat de Glòries, a 3000m2 space with a wide gastronomic offer.

  • Arenas : an old bullring in the city converted into a shopping center while preserving the original façade. The best thing is its panoramic views of the city from the terrace on the fourth floor.

  • L'Illa Diagonal : one of the most exclusive shopping centers in the city, as it has more luxury brands than budget ones, although there is also Primark.

  • Diagonal Mar : one of the largest and most complete on the list where you will find all kinds of amenities and the most varied shops.

To entertain the little ones in the family we have some options that, rain or not, they will surely not want to miss. You can take them to discover the seabed and all the aquatic species found in L'Aquàrium de Barcelona, an impressive underwater world for the whole family. Another place where you can learn while having fun is the CosmoCaixa , a museum designed for the whole family where they do a large number of activities, experiments and with the most entertaining areas such as the Planetarium or the Flooded Forest.

Remember that in Barcelona it is very easy to get around the city by metro, where you will not find traffic or get wet in the rain, so you can always bring a raincoat and/or umbrella and move from one place to another with the metro. If it doesn't rain much, it will be the perfect option to keep your plans planned for the day.
